About Us

The inspiration for HEIS Renewal was birthed after Wendy and I purchased our farm east of Kingsley in 1998. The initial vision came as we travelled from our home in Blue Springs, MO to care for gardens, camp and begin to enjoy our new property. I called it Pastor’s Pasture. It would be a place where pastors could come to experience rest and restoration. However, I had no idea how I as a mechanical engineer was supposed to provide such a ministry. So with this vision in mind, over 20+ years I stockpiled lumber and building materials from auctions and stored them in my barns.

 

Then in 2018 as my engineering career came to an impasse, I was reminded that I had sensed a call to pastoral ministry in 1992. So through prayer and conversations with pastors, family and friends, I enrolled in seminary on a full-time basis. As I progressed through seminary, I saw that God’s desire was to restore His beloved humanity to Shalom (wholeness) and to bring us into his Sabbath Rest (healthy, intimate, fruitful relationship).

 

Upon attaining a Masters of Divinity in 2021, I found myself being led to thrive where I was planted and began filling pulpits for local congregations. Then on December 15, 2021, the Lord sent a small derecho, which disintegrated the barn where most of the building materials I had collected were being stored. However, all of the building materials remained right where they were. It was as if the Lord was saying: it’s time to make use of these building materials. By December of 2023, with the help and encouragement of family and friends, we replaced the barn and more importantly created HEIS Renewal Inc.

 

Since then I have taken a pastoral call at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, Iowa. This experience has helped me to more closely identify with the challenges pastors and church leaders face. I have especially become aware of my own need for Sabbath as I pour out my life, seeking to restore and spread the shalom of Christ to all who come within my sphere of influence.

 

With God’s provision and guidance, HEIS Renewal will advance according to His timing. The HEIS Renewal Inc. Board and I however are not able to do it all. We will need many helpers who can come alongside to bring this vision to fruition through investment of time, talent and treasure.
